Brighton & Hove Albion produced the standout result of the Premier League weekend, thrashing Crystal Palace 5-0 at the American Express Stadium on Sunday to climb to second in the table. Fabian Hurzeler's side were three goals up inside ten minutes — Jaydee Canvot's own goal, a stunning long-range strike from Diego Gómez and a third from Yasin Ayari — before Charalampos Kostoulas and Jack Hinshelwood added further goals either side of the hour.
Elsewhere over the weekend, Aston Villa won 1-0 at Newcastle United, Bournemouth beat Sunderland 2-0, Leeds United drew 1-1 with Manchester United, and Arsenal edged Nottingham Forest 1-0 to stay in the title mix.
North of the border, Celtic put on a show at Parkhead, beating title rivals Hearts 7-1 with braces from Callum Osmand and Benjamin Nygren. The result, backed up by Rangers being held 2-2 by Dundee on Saturday, sends Celtic four points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership after eight wins from nine league games.
Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr was handed a four-match ban by the Spanish Football Federation's disciplinary committee, with manager Jose Mourinho suggesting the winger might be better served moving to "a country that would show him respect." Closer to home, Liverpool's teenage winger Rio Ngumoha, who is contracted at Anfield until 2028, said contract extension talks with the club were "going well."
The only Premier League fixture on the card is Tottenham Hotspur v Coventry City, kicking off at at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and live on Sky Sports. It is a bottom-half six-pointer in the truest sense — Spurs sit 20th with three points from their opening games, four places and three points behind newly-promoted Coventry. Roberto De Zerbi's side are nonetheless strong favourites at home, with the visitors still finding their feet at this level.
It's a five-meeting card for UK racing fans. Pontefract stages a quality flat afternoon headlined by the Listed British Stallion Studs EBF Silver Tankard Stakes at . Over the jumps, Plumpton runs a seven-race card from to , featuring the Nick and Valda Embiricos Memorial Handicap Chase at . Bath hosts flat racing from to , before the all-weather cards take over in the evening at Wolverhampton (–) and under the floodlights at Southwell (–).
Formula 1 heads to Austin for the United States Grand Prix from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October, while the tennis calendar moves on to the Swiss Indoors Basel and Erste Bank Open in Vienna, both running 24 October to 1 November.
Selection: Tottenham Hotspur to beat Coventry City. Reasoning: Spurs' league position is misleading given the quality in De Zerbi's squad, and a newly-promoted Coventry side has struggled for control away from home all season. Home advantage and squad depth should be enough even with several first-team absences.
Selection: Tyrrhenian Thunder in the Listed Silver Tankard Stakes. Reasoning: Tipster Katie Midwinter highlights this improving sort as her Listed-race fancy of the day, with the step up in trip and drop into a smaller field playing to its strengths against the market leaders.
Selection: Undiscovered, each-way interest in the same Silver Tankard Stakes. Reasoning: Only beaten a couple of lengths in the Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes at Newmarket last month, this son of New Bay drops into a winnable Listed contest and the step up to a mile looks to suit — a logical each-way alternative to the market leaders.
Selection: Palamon in the Nick and Valda Embiricos Memorial Handicap Chase. Reasoning: The Dan Skelton-trained chaser followed up a 32-length romp at Southwell last Tuesday and, despite shouldering a 7lb penalty, looks to have more in hand than this price suggests on a sound surface at Plumpton.
Spurs are without Savio for a few weeks with a muscle injury, with Omar Marmoush in line to deputise on the left. Lucas Bergvall is out after a knee injury picked up against Manchester United, while Rodrigo Bentancur begins a three-match ban following his red card for headbutting Luke Shaw. Longer term, Mykhaylo Mudryk (ankle) is targeting a 7 November return and Wilson Odobert remains sidelined with a serious knee injury; Pedro Porro (hamstring) and Dejan Kulusevski (knee) are both closing in but will sit this one out.
Mikel Arteta remains without William Saliba, Christos Tzolis (thigh) and Piero Hincapié, who needs another one to two weeks to overcome an ankle problem. Martin Zubimendi (ankle/foot) was a late assessment before the Forest win and his status for the coming week is still being managed.
United are managing a lengthy list including Patrick Dorgu (hamstring), Benjamin Sesko (ongoing shin trouble), Manuel Ugarte (ACL) and Tom Heaton (hamstring). At Liverpool, Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak are all carrying knocks picked up either side of the international break and remain doubts for the next round of fixtures.
Vinicius Jr's four-match suspension from Spanish football's disciplinary committee has reignited speculation over his Real Madrid future after pointed comments from Jose Mourinho. In better news for Liverpool, young winger Rio Ngumoha says talks over extending his contract — he's tied to Anfield until 2028 — are progressing well.
For over 16 years, Betfan has built a reputation as one of the UK's leading tipping platforms — trusted by serious punters looking for professional services, transparent proofing and long-term betting value.
Behind every selection is a team of dedicated professional tipsters working tirelessly in the background — the form book, the going, the draw, the market moves — so that the information reaching you is the information that is actually worth having.
Unlike many services online, our results are not manually typed into spreadsheets or hidden behind vague screenshots. Every result is date-stamped, tracked and verified directly through our platform so members can see genuine performance from day one.
There's a reason Betfan has been around for over 16 years — still operating, still proofing, still standing while countless competitors have disappeared.
This is not hype. This is real proofing, real services and real long-term performance.
They work tirelessly in the background, long before racing starts: form, going, the draw, market moves, the small details most punters never get time to check. They do that work so you don't have to, and so the information that reaches you is the information worth having.
