Friday's Championship fixture at Turf Moor went the way of Wolverhampton Wanderers, who came from behind to beat Burnley 2-1. Jamie Vardy, still scoring in his 20th straight professional season, had given the hosts hope, but goals from F. López (39') and T. Chirewa (72') saw Wolves take all three points.
Attention in the top flight was firmly on the weekend's card. Mikel Arteta gave an injury update on four Arsenal players ahead of Sunday's trip to the City Ground, with Ian Wright backing the Gunners to see off Nottingham Forest. At St James' Park, Newcastle United confirmed Anthony Elanga, Jacob Ramsey and Tino Livramento will all miss today's visit of Aston Villa, though there was better news as Joelinton returns to contention for his first start of the campaign. Manchester United, meanwhile, were assessing the fitness of Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo ahead of Sunday's trip to Leeds, with Benjamin Sesko still being carefully managed for a shin complaint.
In north London, Tottenham's injury list continued to bite, with Pedro Porro (hamstring) given no firm return date and Rodrigo Bentancur still banned until 7 November, while Dejan Kulusevski, Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert all remain sidelined with knee injuries. Brentford also confirmed that Kaye Furo (metatarsal, post-surgery) and Josh Dasilva (hamstring) are yet to feature this season.
On the racing side, final fields for British Champions Day were confirmed on Friday, with defending champion Calandagan taking 42% of all bets for the Champion Stakes and being backed in from 3/1 into 2/1 ahead of Saturday's £4.35 million card at Ascot.
It's a four-match Premier League Saturday. Everton host Chelsea at the Hill Dickinson Stadium with a BST kick-off, before Brentford welcome Liverpool to the Gtech Community Stadium at . At the same time, league leaders Manchester City entertain Ipswich Town at the Etihad, City sitting top on 18 points against Ipswich's 9 in 10th. The day closes with Newcastle United hosting Aston Villa at St James' Park at .
The showpiece of the entire British flat season, British Champions Day, takes place at Ascot. Seven races run from to , five of them Group 1s: the Qatar Racing British Champions Long Distance Cup, the Champions Sprint Stakes at , the Fillies & Mares Stakes, the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes — where Talk Of New York heads a field of eleven — and the Champion Stakes itself at , where Calandagan defends his crown against Bay City Roller, Ombudsman, Almaqam, Devil's Advocate and Constitution River.
Away from Ascot, jumps fans have a solid Saturday card at Market Rasen, where the Pertemps Network Saver Saturday raceday runs from before through to a last race at . There's further action at Catterick, Newton Abbot and Stratford, plus all-weather racing at Southwell.
Selection: Calandagan (16:00, Ascot).
Reasoning: The reigning champion beat this same field twelve months ago and followed up with a ten-length demolition in the Coronation Cup before running second in the Prix de l'Arc. He's taken 42% of all money for this race and the market has shortened him from 3/1 into 2/1 — on pure form he looks the one to beat over Ombudsman and Bay City Roller.
Selection: Almeraq (14:05, Ascot).
Reasoning: Sent off favourite ahead of Tempted and Autumn Glow, Almeraq arrives with solid Royal Ascot form in the book and looks the most reliable speed horse in a typically competitive 6f Group 1. Each-way cover is worth considering given the field size, but the win price is fair for a horse this well fancied by the market.
Selection: Aston Villa (17:30 kick-off).
Reasoning: Newcastle go in as favourites but are missing Elanga, Ramsey and Livramento, and their recent form has been patchy. Villa arrive with midweek momentum behind them, and at odds-against this looks a generous price against a home side carrying three absences into kick-off.
Selection: BTTS Yes (14:00 kick-off).
Reasoning: Brentford have found the net regularly at home this season and Liverpool's away form has been anything but watertight. With the draw also well backed at 11/4, the game has the hallmarks of an open, high-tempo contest — BTTS at even-money-adjacent odds is the shape of bet that fits.
Selection: BTTS Yes (14:00 kick-off).
Reasoning: City are overwhelming favourites at 1/4 and should win comfortably, but Ipswich have shipped goals in bunches this season (12 conceded in nine) while also finding the net in four of their last six. City rarely go a whole match without scoring themselves, making this the value angle rather than backing the short-priced favourite outright.
Eddie Howe will be without Anthony Elanga, Jacob Ramsey and Tino Livramento for today's visit of Aston Villa, though Joelinton's return from injury gives the manager a timely boost — the Brazilian is in contention for his first start of the season.
Spurs remain stretched: Pedro Porro has no firm return timeline for his hamstring injury, Rodrigo Bentancur is banned until 7 November, and Dejan Kulusevski, Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert are all still working back from knee injuries.
Ahead of Sunday's trip to Leeds, United will make late checks on Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo, while Benjamin Sesko continues to be carefully managed for a shin problem that dates back to last season.
Kaye Furo remains sidelined after metatarsal surgery last month, and Josh Dasilva (hamstring) has yet to feature for Keith Andrews's side this season.
Away from the pitch, Arsenal have been handed fresh encouragement in their pursuit of Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong, who could be available for a move next summer. The Gunners are also said to be eyeing a January approach for Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae, with Vinicius Junior another name continuing to be linked.
For over 16 years, Betfan has built a reputation as one of the UK's leading tipping platforms — trusted by serious punters looking for professional services, transparent proofing and long-term betting value.
Behind every selection is a team of dedicated professional tipsters working tirelessly in the background — the form book, the going, the draw, the market moves — so that the information reaching you is the information that is actually worth having.
Unlike many services online, our results are not manually typed into spreadsheets or hidden behind vague screenshots. Every result is date-stamped, tracked and verified directly through our platform so members can see genuine performance from day one.
There's a reason Betfan has been around for over 16 years — still operating, still proofing, still standing while countless competitors have disappeared.
This is not hype. This is real proofing, real services and real long-term performance.
They work tirelessly in the background, long before racing starts: form, going, the draw, market moves, the small details most punters never get time to check. They do that work so you don't have to, and so the information that reaches you is the information worth having.
