📌 Editor's Tip of the Day
1. Chelsea to beat Manchester United @ 21/20 (bet365)
Selection: Chelsea match odds win, Saturday 12:30, Stamford Bridge. Reasoning: Chelsea sit sixth points clear of United in the table and go in on the back of a competitive EFL Cup penalty exit to Liverpool, while United are winless in five across all competitions and missing Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, Benjamin Šeško and Patrick Dorgu through injury. Backing the hosts at odds-against looks fair value given the gulf in current form.

Betfan Daily Sports Briefing — Friday, 30 October 2026

Published · By Betfan Editorial

Yesterday's results & headlines

The EFL Cup fourth round delivered one of the competition's great shocks on Wednesday night as reigning champions Arsenal were eliminated by League Two's Fleetwood Town, 84 places below them in the football pyramid. Aaron Loupalo-Bi fired the hosts ahead in the 21st minute from one of only two shots Fleetwood managed all night, before Viktor Gyökeres levelled on 50 minutes. Arsenal had teenager Max Dowman sent off in the 86th minute, and after 1-1 in normal time, Fleetwood held their nerve from the spot, winning the shootout 5-3 after Bruno Guimarães saw his penalty saved by Jay Lynch.

Elsewhere in the fourth round it was penalties galore: Liverpool edged out Chelsea 6-5 on spot-kicks after a 1-1 draw, while Manchester City saw off Brighton 4-3 on penalties following a 2-2 stalemate. Bournemouth thumped Aston Villa 3-0, Crystal Palace won 1-0 at Fulham, and Sunderland edged a seven-goal thriller 3-2 against Brentford. On Thursday, Everton brushed aside Newcastle United 3-1 to round out the last eight.

In the Premier League, the title race remains a two-horse affair after eight rounds: Manchester City and Arsenal are level on 21 points apiece, with City's +11 goal difference edging out Arsenal's +8 on paper. Brighton & Hove Albion sit a surprise third on 16 points with a +16 goal difference, ahead of Liverpool (15) and Chelsea, who are fifth on 13 points despite Wednesday's cup exit.

Today's fixtures & previews

Football: Sheffield United host Wrexham

The pick of a busy Championship card is at Bramall Lane, where Sheffield United welcome Wrexham at . Just two points separate the sides, with the Blades unbeaten in three of their last four league outings and Wrexham winless away from home in four. Several other Championship fixtures are played across the division today, with promotion-chasing sides all looking to close the gap on the top two before the weekend.

Horse racing: jumps at Wetherby and Uttoxeter

British jumps racing is spread across two cards today. Wetherby stages six races from to , while Uttoxeter runs seven races from to . Cross-channel, Down Royal in Northern Ireland hosts a seven-race jumps card from . On the Flat, Newmarket runs through the afternoon, and the all-weather switches to Newcastle for a nine-race evening card under lights from .

Rugby and motorsport

In Gallagher Premiership Rugby, Bristol Bears host Leicester Tigers this evening (), with United Rugby Championship fixtures including Connacht v Leinster and Glasgow Warriors v the Lions kicking off at the same time. Formula 1 gets its Mexican Grand Prix weekend under way at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, with first practice at GMT and second practice at GMT, ahead of Saturday's qualifying and Sunday's race.

Betting tips & odds analysis

18+ | Bet responsibly | BeGambleAware.org | Tips are opinion, not guaranteed. Only stake what you can afford to lose. Odds quoted at time of writing and subject to change.

2. Both teams to score in Chelsea v Manchester United @ 8/13 (Betfair Sportsbook)

Selection: BTTS "Yes", same fixture. Reasoning: United have kept only one clean sheet in twelve games this season, and Chelsea have scored in every home league fixture so far this term despite their own defensive injury list (Lacroix, Martinez). Short odds, but the goals-at-both-ends trend is well established for this fixture.

3. Minella Rockett @ 11/4 (William Hill), 15:00 Wetherby

Selection: Minella Rockett to win the 15:00 at Wetherby. Reasoning: Tipped by Racing Post's Marcus Buckland as the standout play on the card, Minella Rockett has solid recent form over fences at this type of track and the step up in trip is expected to suit. William Hill's 11/4 is among the more generous prices on offer.

4. Loustic Du Chatel @ 6/1 (bet365), Uttoxeter

Selection: Loustic Du Chatel each-way, Uttoxeter jumps card. Reasoning: An each-way price of 6/1 looks workable for a yard in form over an Uttoxeter track that has historically rewarded consistent stayers; each-way cover protects against the volatility of a competitive jumps handicap.

5. Sheffield United to beat Wrexham @ 29/20 (bet365)

Selection: Sheffield United match odds win, 20:00, Bramall Lane. Reasoning: The Blades have lost just once in their last four Championship outings, and Wrexham arrive winless in four straight away league games. Sheffield United's home record this season makes 29/20 a reasonable price despite the loss of striker Ryan Oné to injury.

Player news & injury updates

Arsenal's cup hangover

The fallout from Wednesday's League Cup exit continues at Arsenal, with Bruno Guimarães' missed penalty and Max Dowman's late red card both under scrutiny after the shock loss to Fleetwood Town. Manager focus now turns quickly to league business this weekend.

Chelsea's defensive concerns

Ahead of Saturday's visit of Manchester United, Chelsea face fitness doubts over Maxence Lacroix, Emiliano Martínez and Jamie Gittens. João Pedro is confirmed to miss out with a thigh injury sustained in training, and captain Reece James remains a long-term absentee.

Manchester United's growing injury list

United travel to Stamford Bridge without Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo (though back in training), Manuel Ugarte (serious knee injury sustained on World Cup duty with Uruguay) and Patrick Dorgu, out for several weeks with a hamstring problem picked up on international duty with Denmark. Marcus Rashford is a doubt with a hip issue, while Bruno Fernandes is expected to be fit enough to feature.

Sheffield United dealt striker blow

Blades boss Chris Wilder confirmed forward Ryan Oné has suffered a recurrence of the hamstring injury that kept him out from the start of the season, ruling him out for "a number of weeks" and leaving a dent in attacking options for tonight's visit of Wrexham.

Transfer notes

Defender Shane Duffy has joined Derby County on a free transfer following his release from Norwich City, giving the Rams added experience at the back as they continue their Championship campaign.
