MEGA PROFITS ACHIEVED – or have they?
The need to look behind the headlines was accentuated for me last week when the BBC report on the Ben Stokes case was highlighted as
“Cricketer Lied about Self Defence”
The remark was made by the prosecution in the trial but you could be forgiven for taking the headline as a factual statement. Clearly, given the verdict, it wasn’t - more a case of a professional wordsmith maximising the potential of one part of the story.
As someone interested in Sports Betting you are probably signed up to several email lists and despite GDPR could still be receiving emails that you have not requested.
Most have a headline and of these some are downright misleading. How about these which I have seen recently:

(Omits to mention the level stakes are 5 point bets so in reality the profit is nearer 200 points)

(Yes – you guessed it – the rest of the season was a disaster)

(The ebook and supporting tips advice service which this was promoting suggested a 50 point bank would suffice -which at the time of writing in August 2018 has seen a near 90% drawdown for this season but which is not mentioned in the promotional emails)
And so on. Now I have no problem with a plus point being highlighted so long as the balance is applied in the covering email. But all too often it is not and the punter is left to do some digging or perhaps even learn the hard way.
So please make sure you do not take a marketing communication at face value. Always look for independent reviews or proofing – if it is not clear that the claims can be substantiated ask for us to look at the service before you buy. If it is any good it will still be there when we have had the chance to assess things.
