Justin Rose Tipped To Win The Open

The great British summer of sport continues this week with the Open Championships that begins on Thursday at Carnoustie. There will be four great days of links golf on one of the hardest courses on the Open rota. The scenery is nothing to write home about but the course can be brutal, especially if the wind blows. Former Open champions on the course include some of the game‘s greats.

There have been seven Opens at Carnoustie and here are the winners:

1931 Tommy Armour
1937 Henry Cotton
1953 Ben Hogan
1968 Gary Player
1975 Tom Watson
1999 Paul Lawrie
2007 Padriag Harrington

These seven players have won 36 majors in total and Paul Lawrie is the only Carnoustie champion who has only won one major. In fact the other six players have all won at least three majors. Class tends to prevail on the most challenging set of holes on an Open course. The closing holes provide the ultimate test and in an Open under the pressure of championship golf at the highest level. The finishing stretch at Carnoustie is the toughest in professional golf.

Since the start of the century the United States has accounted for 10 Open champions, including three wins for Tiger Woods. From 2007 to 2014 four champions were Irish and since 2000 there have been five champions from Europe. Three winners are from South Africa and no other continent or nation has won the event. The average winning score over the last 10 years is 9 under. Only one winner did not better par. JUSTIN ROSE is the selection at 16/1 with Ladbrokes.

After a spell of great racing in Britain with several Group 1 contests it’s ordinary racing fare this week. It’s the time of the season when the Flat is in full swing and there are plenty of summer jumps meetings and All-Weather fixtures. The major event is the Irish Oaks meeting at the Curragh over the weekend. LAURENS has the form at the highest level to prevail in the feature race and that outcome is 5/1 with William Hill

England and India are in the midst of a One Day International series and the current score is one-all after two matches. The decider takes place at Headingley on Tuesday where England can clinch the series. The home team are at number one in the ODI world rankings and India are second in the standings. ENGLAND can confirm the form and win the third ODI at 19/20 generally on offer with bookmakers.
