Mexico Can Avoid Defeat Against Germany

The World Cup big guns are out in force today and if things go to form both finalists begin their campaign and we are not talking about Serbia or Costa Rican who meet in the first match of the day. Keylor Navas is one of the best keepers in the world but the Costa Rica stopper will struggle to prevent a team with a great blend of youth and experience winning their opener so SERBIA are the bet to win the 1pm match at 10/11 with William Hill.

Only Italy (1934 and 1938) and Brazil (1958 and 1962) have successfully defended the World Cup and holders Germany are in action for the first time today. Germany’s second string beat today’s opponents Mexico 4-1 in the Confederations Cup this time last year. Germany have not lost in World Cup qualifying or finals in 28 matches in a run that began in 2010. However, this could be the match that spoils the treble on the favourites with a DRAW and that outcome is 6/1 with Coral.

The three-timer on Serbia, Germany and Brazil pays about 11/4 and that will be a popular bet. Mexico are fancied to avoid defeat against Germany but Brazil should do the business when they meet Switzerland this evening. Brazil have not conceded in seven of their last right fixtures and that run can continue. Switzerland are not strong up front with their first choice strikers having achieved little for their clubs this season. BRAZIL TO WIN TO NIL is the suggestion at 5/4.

The most lucrative race of the day is the Group 3 Munster Oaks at Cork (3.50pm). The track also stages the Cork Derby but that is an all-aged handicap and not a race confined to the Classic generation. Aidan O’Brien has three runners in the track’s version of the Oaks but none of his horses standout. It might be worth opposing the best trainer in Ireland by backing JAEGA at 9/4 with Ladbrokes.
