The weather has been bleak at best and its felt more like Cheltenham than Goodwood but the team there have managed to keep the Festival going which must have looked in doubt on Wednesday evening.

The ITV Coverage has been superb with surely the highlight of the week Chappers looking like a grotesquely overweight Matt Goss chasing Aiden Brian across the turf to interview the Master of Ballydoyle after he had pulled out Churchill.

Aiden Brian was having none of it and promptly scooted off leaving Chappers shouting “Aiden” “Aiden” over and over. Anyone who has seen the episode where Allan Partridge shouts “Dan” over and over again will not have failed to see the Tragic element.

It was brilliant TV and Chappers has been the star all week berating the Bookmakers in a way even Big Mac would be proud of alongside Jason Weaver who is providing brilliant insight and is the best ex jockey presenter since John Francome.

Mick Fitzgerald is still there referring to every horse as “very much a work in progress” and sadly Rishi “where will we see this fella next” Persaud is spotted occasionally but hey you can’t have everything. All in all a brilliant show and deserves to take racing to a wider audience.

So lets hope for a big last day after what has been a rotten week on the Downs. The first race today is the consolation race for those who did not make the cut for the Stewards Cup but it’s a cracker of a sprint in its own right.

Scorching Heat and Gin In The Inn are joint favourites and it’s not hard to see why but at 7/1 they are plenty short enough in a tricky race like this where there are many chances.

Richard Hughes used to shine round this tricky track and now he has embarked on a training career he is sure to be able to advise his jockeys where to be and when to strike round this tricky track. He trains Goodwood Crusader the aptly named horse who has been a winning machine for him.

Young Finlay Marsh takes the reigns today and at 11/1 with 4 places on offer he looks the one to beat for me. He is sure to be a popular pick with strong form and that name!! So take a price this morning.

After Goodwood thoughts turn to York and Doncaster as the Flat Season builds to a fitting climax at Ascot. Let the Simon Holden Racing Club navigate you through this time and beyond.

Back next week, enjoy today and if you have been there this week I expect you will dry out around next Thursday!
