Another ordinary week in racing, storms sweep through leaving soft ground everywhere in July, a 3 year old wins a 2 year old race but everyone thinks it’s a 2 year old and Ryan Moore scowls through an interview, twas ever thus.

King George day at Ascot and down here the excitement is building. Ascot will have a big crowd and a great atmosphere today. Sometimes it’s so big here that the crowd can get lost in these vast stands and the atmosphere can be flat.

The day starts with a 2 year old group 3 fillies race the Princess Margaret Juddmonte stakes. Usually a highly informative race and this year looks as competitive as ever.

Misery guts Mark Johnstone teams up with the dour Ryan Moore for the favourite Nyaleti, oh to be a fly on the wall when those two get together, laugh I nearly did.

Nyaleti has done her winning on fast ground and she won’t get that here. We then have Dance Diva down from the North for team Fahey but is she quite classy enough to be 5/2 I’m not sure.

The horse I like here is the once raced Musical Art trained by the veteran Paul Cole and ridden by Fran Berry. Cole is not the force he was but still can train up there with the best of them and Musical Art created a big impression when winning on debut. The ground was fast but her action and breeding suggests good to soft will be ideal. At 18/1 with Paddy Power she is the value play here.

Next week is simply massive for the Simon Holden Racing Club as we bet big all 5 days of Glorious Goodwood a track I have cleaned up at over the years.
