Hi ,

I thought it was time for something a little bit different. It’s been a while since I wrote an article that focused on strategy rather than other aspects of betting. So today it's time for a look at some strategies!

As bettors we’re always looking for new strategies, systems or betting angles. In fact this is probably what takes up most of our time.

Unfortunately it’s pretty difficult to come up with a profitable betting angle. If it wasn’t, then everybody would be doing it!

I have been doing some work with a pro-betting friend of mine on some new strategies, and it gave me the idea that I should share with you something that you may not have thought of looking into before.

Pattern betting.

This is where we bet based on patterns that we have found to be profitable. When using this style of betting you break it down into 4 stages.

• Early Indicator
• Start Betting
• Finish Indicator
• Stop Betting

In order for us to be successful with pattern betting we need to jump on them quickly when we find them, and then get off them quickly when they have run their course. To do this we use the Early Indicator. This could be a single race that indicates a horse could be coming into a pattern. Our second indicator says that the pattern has begun.

We then have the Finish Indicator which says that the pattern is coming to an end and the Stop Betting which is when we stop placing bets on the runner. Sometimes these last two indicators can be merged into the same one.

Betting patterns are highly underestimated in their effectiveness. They can be very powerful ways of finding winners. One of the places to start is by looking for trainer patterns.

If you already know some trainers then start with them, otherwise choose a trainer that has enough runners to make it worthwhile. Don’t start with the really big ones as they are watched much more closely by the public and the market is more sensitive to their patterns.

You want to break down a trainers runners into horse ages, race types and distances. Make sure you also have a break down of the goings.

Now, there is going to be some work involved, but I can assure you it will be well worthwhile.

Go through the results and look for patterns. A pattern will be a minimum of 3 races over similar conditions where a profit is always made.

Once you have found one then make a note of the conditions. Then go back and start making notes of what has happened in the 2 races (under similar conditions again) leading up to these patterns. You will very soon identify a common occurrence. This becomes your Early Indicator, and it may indicate that in 2 races you begin betting on horses from this trainer under these specific conditions.

Repeat this process to find your Finish Indicator and you have yourself a profitable betting pattern.

Rinse and repeat this whole method and you will soon find you have a lot of betting patterns to follow. You don’t need to limit yourself to just trainers. There are patterns for jockeys and horses as well!

In fact, if you get to grips with this approach then you don’t need to use any other. There are more than enough profitable patterns to keep you busy and bring in a nice income!

Best Wishes,
