19th October 2016

Hi ,

Well what a cracking feast of racing we were treated to on Champions Day at Ascot last Saturday with every race a corker.

Almanzor confirmed the form with Arc winner Found in thrilling Champions Stakes although I’m not sure the winner would beat the filly over a mile and a half as his sire Wooton Bassett was best at up to a mile.

It was great to see Minding win in emphatic style over a mile and to me she is beyond doubt the best three year old filly in Europe. I just wonder if Aiden O’Brien might send her over to America for the Breeders Cup or put her away for the year as she has been on the go since April.

Howies Hotties have been in top form the last few weeks with Spark Plug winning the Cambridgeshire and Saturday Minding justifying strong support.

Also readers will know I gave Renneti for the Cesarewitch where he was a non runner due to firm ground however he came out at Naas on Sunday winning by over 10 lengths with all fold4gold clients on at 10/1.

This is an example of showing you can’t get all the best info as freebies and sometimes it’s best to pay subscriptions to join a service. As members of a service you get the full loaf not just the crumbs left on the table.

Anyway moving on this coming Saturday we have the Racing Post Trophy a group 1 race for juveniles that can be a pointer to next seasons classics and I will take a stab at it for our free tip.

The race is full of Aiden O’Brien and Godolphin entries but I’m going for a big priced dark horse called Contrapposto trained by Frenchman David Menusier who has his small string based down in West Sussex.

David learnt his trade with Criquette Head Maarek and was latter assistant to John Dunlop so he knows his stuff.

Contrapposto won his last race at Nottingham and is improving all the time and he might just give the big battalions something to think about.

Here's hoping this David can beat all the Goliaths.

HOT HANDICAPPERS

FLAT

Mr Marchwood trainer S.Kirk - Dropped to a very useful mark.

Madam Claud trainer H.Morrison - Ran well last week and might prefer a shorter trip however looks on a winnable rating.

Bahamian C trainer R.Fahey - Well handicapped and best at a mile.

JUMPERS

Penhill trainer W.Mullins - The gelding has brushed up his jumping and this classy horse on the flat should be followed in the colours of Tony Bloom.

Renneti trainer W.Mullins - After his win on the flat this strong stayer could well revert to hurdles and is another to follow where ever he is entered.

Back next Wednesday be lucky.

Howard Davis-Shaw.
