5th October 2016

Hi ,

I hope you all watched the Arc last Sunday from Chantilly where history was made when Aiden O’Brien produced the training feat of the Century so far when he saddled the first three horses past the post.

Ryan Moore rode a peach of a ride on the winning filly Found but I have to also congratulate Frankie Dettori for getting Order of St George into 3rd place from his awful draw on the wide outside.

I had to have a chuckle as after the line the extrovert Frankie tried to plant a kiss on the introverted Ryan’s cheek as the winning jockey tried to push him away.

The first three in this Arc De Triomphe must surely go down as the equal of Michael Dickinson’s training sensation of getting the first five home in a Cheltenham Gold Cup. However it has to be said the Favourite in the big French race Postponed ran way below expectations but as I have said many times before horses are not Machines and don’t always run to form as on a going day my money would still be on Postponed to turn the form on its head.

Having just made the comparison between horses and machines it sounds like Lewis Hamilton might prefer a four legged friend to his F1 car after his latest mishap in the Grand Prix.

This Saturday sees the running of the long distance handicap the Cesarewitch at Newmarket which was first run in 1839 after the Russian Tsar Alexander 11 gave the jockey club £300 to run the inaugural race.

It’s a tough one to fathom but after my success in the Cambridgeshire with Spark Plug I have to make the race Howies Hottie this week.

Now a low draw can be a big help but at the time of writing it has not been made so I’m going to play two against the field. The first selection is Havana Beat from Rod Millman’s yard who just happens to be owned by Tony Bloom whose Labrisa Breeze won the big handicap at Ascot last Saturday landing me a major gamble.

The horse is well weighted based on old form and if he gets the trip he should be in the mix. The second bet is Renneti who was 4th in the race last year and is an out and out stayer who is sure to get every yard of the trip.

Last year I found the 50/1 winner Grumeti so lets see if lightning strikes twice.

HOT HANDICAPPERS

FLAT

Abernathy trainer C.Appleby - Ran well last week and can win especially if stepped up in trip.

Bollinhope trainer R.Guest - 20/1 winner at Newcastle off a low weight and can go in again.

Growl trainer R.Fahey - Led inside the furlong marker until swept aside by Labrisa Breeze and better at 6 furlongs.

Dutch Materpiece trainer G.Moore - Looked a sure winner at Ascot until badly hanging close home surely compensation is close at hand.

Back next Wednesday be lucky.

Howard Davis-Shaw.
