Hi ,

The Premier League seems to be taking shape with Man City already establishing a healthy lead with Pep Guardiola already planning January swoops for Arsenal’s Belerin and Sanchez.

I see everyone is taking swipes at Mr Mourinho after United’s troubled start but lets be fair it’s still early days and most of the current side including Rooney have been inherited from previous managers. I’m sure he will get it right but it might take longer than some predicted.

One thing I would like to say is a massive well done to team G.B. in their wonderful medals haul in the Paralympics in Brazil. To see those guys go flat out some with such disabilities makes us all feel very humble.

Today’s racing looks quite interesting from a betting point of view however for Howies Hottie I’m waiting until Saturday’s big race at Newmarket the Cambridgeshire. It’s a massive field which some might call a lottery but I like the challenge.

I’m going with two against the field the first is Spark Plug one of my recent eye-catchers who was noted staying on from the back at York last time. Brian Meehan’s gelding has been threatening to win a big one and it could be his year.

The other tip is Celestial Path trained by Sir Mark Prescott. Now if you look back at his old form he ran a cracker in the 2,000gns a few years ago and before that was placed in the Racing Post Trophy. The horse must have decent ground the faster the better and if the rain stays away he must have a shout especially for a yard that likes to target these big handicaps.

HOT HANDICAPPERS

FLAT

Great Hall trainer M.Quin - He showed up very well at Yarmouth and being dropped back to 10 furlongs could be the key.

Temple Church trainer H.Morrison - A winner of the same race Shergar won as a juvenile and their could be a lot more to come from this colt.

Penglai Pavilion trainer C.Appleby - He made all at Newmarket in a stayers handicap winning with ease.

Back next Wednesday be lucky.

Howard Davis-Shaw.
