10th August 2016

Hi ,

Well would you Adam and Eve it (believe it) Paul Pogba is back at Man Utd where it all began. He was sold to Juventus when still in his teens for £1.5 million and now the same club have bought him back for about £90 million.

I for one think it’s sheer madness as I don’t care if he helps them win every trophy it’s an insane use of money. Lets face it if a top business say run by Richard Branson or Lord Sugar sold a major asset for next to nothing and then paid a kings ransom to buy it back shareholders would not be happy.

It was of course Sir Alex Ferguson who ditched Pogba and it’s alleged he and Paul Scholes laughed down the phone at the French midfielder telling him he wasn’t good enough to play at Old Trafford to which Pogba replied I hate Manchester and wouldn’t come back for all the money in the world.

All this only goes to prove money talks all languages and as I’m writing this I have just heard the blue half of Manchester have just signed John Stones from Everton for nearly £50 million.

So before a balls been kicked in the Premier League many sane people will be hoping another team like Leicester can take the big pot but with a shoe string regime.

The Olympics are now in full swing but one interesting little snippet you may not know about is the story of Summon Up The Blood. He is a 11 year old gelding once trained by Mick Channon who won 3 races on the bounce for the trainer back in 2008.

When the horse retired from racing he was sent to a centre for the retraining of race horses. He was bought by Carlos Parro and is a current member of the Brazilian eventing team competing in Rio. Channon jokingly said that if the Samba outfit win would he be entitled to a medal?

Plenty of racing today but more quantity than quality so for Howies Hottie I’m off over the Irish sea to Gowran Park for the 8.00. It’s a low grade handicap just short of 10 furlongs and the tip is Romantic.

The gelding was once trained by Sir Henry Cecil but was sold to Irish connections when not meeting expectations. He has won a couple of times and looks to be on an upward curve at the moment. He has a wide draw to overcome so a quick start will help around this tight track.

HOT HANDICAPPERS

FLAT

Groundworker trainer P.Midgley - He has dropped some way in the handicap and looks ready to strike.

Viva Verglas trainer D.Loughnane - Rated much lower on turf and I’m sure connections will be looking to take advantage of this rating.

Gershwin trainer D.Lanigan - He was cantering a furlong out at Haydock and might be suited by dropping back to a mile.
