Hi ,

How good are this years crop of three year olds?

Listen to different people and get different opinions but today we finally get chance to gauge as Sandown stage the Coral Eclipse the first chance a top 3 year old has had to test himself against older horses.

Racing is all about opinions and theories and The Gurkha who steps up to represent his generation today is an odds on fave. Now whatever happens even if he were to win by the length of the high street I still suggest
that is a very bad bet because we simply don’t know how good he is outside his generation. He romped to a victory in the French 2000 Guineas but then fell short at Ascot. Many were quick to blame Ryan Moore for that ride and it may be that if you were to ask the happy go lucky Jockey he would admit it was not his finest hour.

He faces today though some hardened Group 1 performers in the shape of a strong field and he also faces some other interesting 3 year olds.

Western Hymn is a standing dish round here and though he is clearly a thinker he often runs very well in Group 1 races and he will be in the shake up.

My Dream Boat is clearly a vastly improved horse but would possibly need the ground to be very soft to land this and it’s drying out!

Hawkbill takes a major step up in class today but he keeps winning and the Boys in Blue are making all the right noises regarding his chances but for me he still has something to prove. Which leaves us with my selection who for me is the safest and certainly best value bet with all the info we have at our disposal.

The horse is Time Test who was last seen here swooping to glory in the Brigadier Gerard giving weight to Western Hymn.

Ryan Moore is obliged to ride the Gurkha and so Pat Smullen rides Time Test. I don’t envisage that as a problem as the horse is straightforward. Charlton will have him spot on for this and he rates an exceptional bet as he ticks every box.

My Race Club members were part of a massive gamble last week as Gran Canaria Queen landed a major plunge from 14/1 into 8/1 at Ponty! They got on at 8am before most punters had even looked, if you want to be part of major insider gambles and private handicap ratings that consistently beat the Bookmakers then look no further I’m at your service.

Have a great sporting weekend and if your Welsh I expect you have a headache.

Have a great last day.

Back next Saturday.
