Here we go the first day of the 2016 Cheltenham festival
Supreme novice hurdle
ALTIOR was visually impressive in his last run at kempton on Boxing Day - his turn of foot from the second last sealed the win within a matter of strides - has previously won round Cheltenham too beating Maputo at the paddy power meeting

Arkle
One of Willie Mullins bankers in douvan who ought to prove his short odds and win this easily. Advising a watching brief on this race with the likely short odds

Ultima Handicap Chase
The first of a number of big field handicaps and there are two selections. First is OUT SAM who won a novice chase at Newbury a few weeks ago beating Milansbar who has won since and is now rated 147. Out Sam runs off 139 today and looks very well handicapped. Second choice is THE YOUNG MASTER who has followed the same route as stablemate and last years winner the Druids nephew taking in the cleeve hurdle on trials day. Previously was staying on in a decent race at ascot behind wakanda. Today's extra furlong and uphill finish will suit

Champion Hurdle
THE NEW ONE goes in this race for the third time and can be considered unlucky two years ago when hampered by the fall of our Conor - he has troubles last year and finished fifth but has had a trouble free preparation this year and can finally get his head in front in this race. He finished second to faugheen in the Christmas hurdle and with faugheen missing he is set for a big run

Mares Hurdle
VROUM VROUM MAG looks to be one of Willie Mullins bankers today and comes here unbeaten after a good win at ascot in a mares race - she can come away from here with the unbeaten run still intact

National Hunt Chase
Another big field and two selections here that ran in the same race at kempton - SOUTHFIELD ROYALE finished second that day behind tea for two beaten just 4 lengths - has previously won two novice chases easily including a grade 2 and has Nina carberry in the plate today. NATIVE RIVER finished third that day and I fancied him for the RSA chase originally but has looked a bit one paced over 3m so step up to 4m will suit this out and out stayer

Close Bros Novice Handicap
We finish day one with a handicap where the weights are separated by just 4lbs. BOUVREUIL won two runs ago at Doncaster beating vyta du roc before dropping back in trip to 2m and was never in the race - back up in trip today he looks to have been laid out for this. DOUBLE SHUFFLE has run two good races at the course this year finishing second to art mauresque and fourth to more of that. Last time beating fourth act at Ludlow giving him 11lbs but only gives that one 1lb today

A decent start for us yesterday after day 1 - lets go again on day 2
Neptune Novice Hurdle
YANWORTH was so impressive on trials day beating shantou village on the bridle who is no slouch either - he has been one of the main preview night bankers and I can see no more than him doing exactly the same today
Selection Yanworth 5 pts win 6/4
RSA Chase
MORE OF THAT is 4/4 at Cheltenham - a world hurdle winner a couple of years ago - he has won two novice chases this year with a minimum of fuss beating sametegal in the second who won a decent race at Newbury last time out

Coral cup
The minefield of a 26 runner handicap that is the coral cup - we have two selections that should go well at double figure prices - BAOULET DELAROQUE is on a 4 timer winning last three over 2m3+ beating a decent yardstick in value at risk - he is 9 lbs higher than last win but is obviously still improving. DIAMOND KING was having his first run over 2 and a half miles at Punchestown travelling strongly through his race and racing clear in the straight - he has been raised also for his win but is another improving.

Champion Chase
SPRINTER SACRE looks like an ew bet to nothing based on his two runs this season. He came back on his first run and destroyed a field here at Cheltenham then beat sire de grugy at kempton. He can give un de sceaux most to do. That one will have some competition for the lead with special tiara and will maybe set it up for our selection

Cross country
Edna Bolger normally has runners in this race who end up being in the mix and this year is no different - JOSIES ORDERS has won twice over c&d already the first was a handicap and was receiving plenty of weight but the second race was a conditions race and he still won - he should again take the beating today

Fred Winter Handicap
Another race with 2 selections and Paul Nicholls has made no bones about the fact DIEGO DU CHARMIL is a well handicapped horse - he has done a very good piece of work in front of zubayr who is favourite for the triumph hurdle on Friday. FIXE LE KAP was at one point a leading fancy for the triumph himself but could only finish second to frodon at haydock - heavy ground was to blame and back on good ground today he can go well
Selections Diego du charmil 1.5 pts ew 8/1 fixe le kap 1.5 pts ew 14/1 (both 5 places)
Champion Bumper
AVENIR D'UNE VIE is Patrick Mullins choice for a bumper that the Irish generally win - has form on good to soft winning bumpers by double figure lengths but was beaten by Jessica harringtons horse albeit giving it some weight. Same weights today and will be in the mix
