TODAY'S WIN FREE TIP NEWS:

BETTING AND SELF DISCIPLINE

We back horses to win money and that's a plain fact of life. There are people in life who back horses for a living and there are others who work but supplement their income from backing horses.

To enable a person to be successful within the betting of horses one needs to be disciplined. I make a good living from backing horses. I am going to share with you all my self imposed disciplinary measures which I stick to religiously.

My rules are:-

1. I look through the cards every evening deciding if there are any bets for the following day. This gives me an idea of whether I will be backing or not. I then just chew-over my thoughts and if I know connections, trainer or owner I give them a call.

2. I then go back to the cards for the next day and on the flat I look at the draw, the jockey and form of horse and trainer and does horse act on going or surface. Over the jumps I take same information, except the draw, and check distance.

3. Are these horses genuine or are they fitted with gadgets like cheekpieces, blinkers etc. Is the trainer in form? How ar has the horse travelled to the race?

4. I eventually make up my mind and then decide on stake. Your staking plan is important...never ever gamble more than you can afford to lose....an old guy told me as a youngster " if your dinner depends on a bet then don't bet". Great advice but I learnt after having my fingers burnt a few times as a youngster. I never do this.

5. Your staking plan. Have a bank of money eg £1000 and with this your maximum stake could be £50....never exceed it.

6. Sort your bets out the previous evening....look at Oddschecker.com.....back your selection(s) and take best odds if you like the odds if you don't like the price don't back it.

7. I always back online. I never go into a betting shop unless I want to watch a race when out or visit the toilet. You don't get best odds Guarenteed in the shops.

8. Never chase losses just wait for the evening to look at tomorrow's cards. Chasing money is a fools game and you usually end up losing more.

9. Sometimes you here people on television being interviewed and the talk about a horse being a value bet...never understand this comment!...value to me is a winner whether it is Evens, 6/4 or 2/5.
I would sooner bet a 1/2 on shot that wins than a 14/1 so-called value bet which finishes fourth.

10. Never go on hearsay....how many times have you been told by a friend ..." I have a tip from the owner"..."I have a tip from a trainer"...just don't take any notice unless like me and I know people in racing to ask. They expect a 'Thank you' by the way. I don't mind that provided the horse wins but I never let a contact down as news spreads quickly. So self control, discipline and sticking to your rules will help in the fight against bookmakers.

11. Not as a tipster but as a punter I find a lot of Bookmakers are offering 'place only' betting and some offer three places in 6 and 7 runner races at certain times. This is a money spinner if you like Place betting.
