Lady Aurelia Can Be Sprint Queen At York Today 

If the Melbourne Cup is the race that stops a nation then today’s Nunthorpe Stakes at York could be described as the race that stops a county. The clash between Lady Aurelia and Battassh over five furlongs will grip the whole of Yorkshire. 

Forget hard or soft Brexit the main topic of discussion at York today is about which of the brilliant speedsters will come out on top. Lady Aurelia carries three pounds less than her main rival in the betting and that allowance could be crucial in the final outcome.  

On a line through Profitable there is very little to choose between the two market leaders but Lady Aurelia is the marginal favourite at 11/8 with Skybet. In some lists they are joint favourites which suggests they are closely matched. 

Profitable cannot win today’s race as the horse has been soundly beaten by Lady Aurelia and Battaash this season. However, on ratings and form Profitable look booked for third place to reward each-way or place only backers.  

Lady Aurelia has been impressive in winning over five furlongs at Royal Ascot over the last two years. She is unproven in Britain away from Ascot and has no margin for error today. Any chink in the armour will be exploited by Battaash (6/4 with bet365). 

The Nunthorpe will be a straight dash over the minimum distance and that could suit Battaash. However, Lady Aurelia cannot be opposed and can win the race that will make Yorkshire pause.
