Blaklion and O'Foalians Boy Two Against the National Field - Rick Elliott

Blakion could be a blot on the handicap after the weights were announced for the Grand National this week. However, if you want to back the horse to win the most famous race in the world it might be prudent to place your bets before Saturday's Grand National Trial at Haydock. Blaklion can be backed at 33/1 for the National but those would be slashed given an eye-catching effort up the road from Aintree. More light will be shed on his prospects at Haydock so you should get on before that race.

Blaklion won the RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last year, a contest O'Faolains Boy two years earlier. The race is the championship for staying novice chasers, a kind of little boys Gold Cup. In theory it identifies the best young inexperienced chaser and it's rare for a winner to race in the following year's Grand National. O'Foalains Boy has had an injury affected career and has a similar profile to Blaklion in the context of the National.
