Hi ,

It always feel like the start of the Jumps Season proper for the Don when I visit Kempton on this day so I will set off mid morning to one of our great Jumps tracks ignoring the ghastly all weather track obviously.

Kempton is sharp and is about one thing, speed, you have to be able to lay up with the pace here particularly on good ground or you will get left behind. I've been coming here for thirty years and Desert Orchid was the ultimate track specialist as he would dominate fields and put pressure on all the other horses jumping, he rarely touched a twig round here. Auto Star was another great example as was the great Moscow Flyer. All superstars anywhere but Kempton brought out the best in them.

We won’t see a horse in their league today but we will see The New One a genuine Champion hurdle contender and the highest rated English hurdler in Training. I stress English as a certain Mr Mullins has about 55 rated higher and more on the way no doubt. The New One has little competition today but I will be fascinated to see him in the Paddock. He is a class act despite his flop at Cheltenham, my info is that he will stay over hurdles which is surprising however the Trainer may feel that as he can throw in a bad jump that it might be the safer option. Anyway he must win and win well to send a message over the Irish sea!!!

I can’t wait for this Jumps season after a very strong year on the Flat with excellent profits and winners at up to 50/1!
