BetKudos News:

Gevrey Chambertin Has The Profile To Win The Midlands National

By Rick Elliott

It could be a case of after The Lord Mayor's Show but Uttoxeter is an excellent race course and the Midland's Grand National is a lucrative handicap chase in its own right. In three weeks the original Grand National takes place at Aintree and there will be some market moves once events from Cheltenham have been digested. Cause Of Causes is now as low as 16/1 to win the most famous race in the world after an impressive win in the cross country event at the Festival.

Gevrey Chambertin was running an eye catching race in the Eider Chase at Newcastle before unseating Tom Scudamore and could be thrown in at the weights in the Midlands version of the Aintree spectacular. The Uttoxeter race is run over 4 miles one and a half furlongs and about three laps of the course and stamina is paramount. Gevrey Chambertin has the class to prevail in a race that could become a slog.

No horse has won the Midlands Grand National more than once and only four jockeys have had more than one riding success in the contest. David Pipe is the winning most trainer with four wins, in successive years from 2011 to 2014 and he trains Gevrey Chambertin. The horse is aged 9 and since 2005 five winners have been that age. Since 2000 only one winner has carried more than 11 stone and Gevrey Chambertin has been allocated 11 stones and one pound.
