Saturday's FREE Tip Is Ready...

11th July 2015

Hi ,

Andy Bell's Racing Diary - A 33/1 cracker kicks starts our month. (Sat 4th - Fri 10th July 2015)

Saturday 4th. Last night was the start of the Rabat festival and it kicks off with the street party, which is a nice start to a manic and very busy weekend. We always rock up at Gatinas, who is Ian's mum and sample the masses of food she has prepared during the day and obviously it would be rude not to also sample Joe's homemade "very strong" wine, it doesn't help that he serves it in half pint glasses, but hey there's worse things in life lol.

It's just a far cry from my normal day to day life not the food and drinks part obviously, but having conversations with the likes of Father Luke, who has flown in from Brazil specially to visit his family and be at the festa and seeing policeman stop and have a sandwich a chat and a beer before ambling down the street back on their beat.

The fireworks did Rabat proud although there wasn't as many as last weeks exhibition at Qrandi, they were just as spectacular if not more.

We make our way up to the square where we finally halt proceedings at about 2am, now there is a sting in the tail, I have drunkenly agreed to be picked up for fishing at Stupid o clock, 5-30 am by my bro Ian.

I have hardly hit the pillow and Ian is outside pipping and I feel like absolute shite, but a brave face and quick squat and we are off to Gnenja.

With the first four nets successfully hauled in and some right nice fish in our cool box, I am now starting to suffer and the mixture of homemade red wine, Cisk XL's, pastitices and cheese are starting to ferment and badly. The sixth net is picked and we are halfway, as we are heading in to "unload" I do exactly the same thing "unload" and the fish on this reef are now enjoying a ripe old Maltese cocktail of last night, but unperturbed a quick gulp of water and I am feeling human again and ready for the next six nets. We drop our booty and nets of at the boathouse and head out again.

Net seven and we have our first lobster and he is a goody and has dinner stamped all over him, than his younger brother comes up and we are sorted for dinner at Ian's, pre our jolly at Rabat tonight.

With all our nets pulled and a cooler box full with fish we head back to drop me off at Vince's to see what Saturday's racing holds for all of us. I am mightily relieved to be greeted by a text telling me that the Gosden team think that WAADY is once again expected to win at his favourite track Sandown and that GOLDEN HORN is a good thing in the Coral Eclipse. I email out WAADY and advise taking the 9/4 because the way he won last time he does in fact look at good thing, but I can see no gain in advising GOLDEN HORN at 4/9 so decide to leave him. Last I put up ROYAL COMMISSIONER at  8/1 ew and also suggest an ew double on the two.

No hiding place this afternoon and I am dying for a siesta as the locals just keep arriving with the XL's for me and trust me I am dead on my feet. Gitty is no help as she is gulping a new found friend with vengeance the new Drink in town Cisk Berries.

WAADY starts our day of perfectly with a really nice win making him four out of the last five, but scintillating is what I'll call GOLDEN HORN's win as he has achieved what so called wonder 3yo colts in the past have failed at and with the GREY GATSBY behind him the form has to be rock solid. Pity that our 8/1 shot ROYAL COMMISSIONER doesn't pick his feet up and at least get us a place because it would of been a real nice ew double with WAADY already past the post at 5/2.

A small winning day and the first of the month and I sneak back to the flat to curl up for hopefully a couple of hours before its noticed I have gone AWOL.

We arrive at Ian's and are greeted with a lovely Lobster and garlic aroma, but firstly I need to jump on his Wi-Fi and email out two selections which I had texted during my nap to my LATE service clients at tonight's meetings.

Firstly I am told that JOHNNY BE GOODS is an absolute bet to nothing ew at 5/1. Than my really good Mark Johnson contact tells me that MALIMBI has been working really well at home and is expected to trouble the judges.

The charming Grat pops the first of the Brut bubbles and the night is off to a flying start.

JOHNNY BE GOODS does what we expected and finishes placed and is a wash through bet.

I than watch MALIMBI lead from the stalls on my iPad and two furlongs out for all monies he looks beat, but as many Mark Johnson horses do he just keeps finding and finding and ends up winning going away.

With a 5/1 winner in the bag the lobster tastes all the better and the seafood tagletelli that kicked things off was restaurant quality, so in all a fantastic night, a winner, super company and great eats, Mmmmmm not bad by anybody's standards, I reckon.
