Back a stable in form is a much vaunted cry from the racetrack to the bookmakers shop. Perhaps more the racetrack as the last time the Don went into a bookmakers on Newmarket high street it appeared populated by very strange characters whose only interest was casino machines. And Don't get me started on the customers.

There is some validity in it and on my travels this week I've noticed in the North that Brian Ellison and Tim Easterby horses look gleaming in the parade ring and very fit and well. Results bear that out and down here Roger Charlton seems to have his string peaking. What that means for us as bettors is that if you see a handicap where you are struggling to pick a selection and the form seems very close we can then introduce stable form as a factor. I would never advise just backing blindly on a yard as that's the way to the poorhouse but certainly as a factor.

Some yards choose when their horses will be in peak fitness and form others it just happens and can be unexpected. I would imagine with Ellison and Easterby it's deliberate. Another powerful Northern Trainer Richard Fahey appears to want his horses peaking at the beginning and at the end of the season hoping to clean up then.

Down here Luca Cumani wouldn't be one for winding them up too early and of course Sir Mark Prescott still thinks of July as early season. Trainers are often creatures of habit these two particularly and both masters of their craft. Prescott amuses me when seen on the Heath he will bemoan to anyone that his quality is down and he is set for a terrible year and it's a waste of time following his team, then has a 40% win strike rate in July and August!! Like I say creatures of habit.

One Trainer many of you will not know much about is Paul Midgely but he is certainly on the Dons radar given his training of Sprinters. He had a one two in the Epsom Dash and the victor Desert Law is a strong each way bet for me in Ireland today. Midgely seems to get improvement out of this fellow and his stablemate Monsieur Joe and I think he can raid a big pot in Ireland today. The race is the 5 pm at the Curragh and I would take the 10/1 with Betvictor and back him each way.
