Cheltenham Festival - 2:10 – RSA Chase, Grade 1, 3m. Oh, Might Bite. Might Bite. MIGHT BITE. Repeating his name is almost a form of therapy after his last fence fall on Boxing Day (when he was 15 lengths clear and running a faster time than Thistlecrack) cost me over £1,200. The horse who took advantage of that fall was ROYAL VACATION, whose subsequent comfortable victory on Trials Day here gave substance to that form. Might Bite had a confidence boosting round of jumping at Doncaster last time out and seemed to show no ill-effects from that fall at Kempton. There is a huge risk that he will boil over and make a shuddering error, but he is the most talented horse in this field and I want him on my side. Most pundits have him down as their lay of the Festival which should mean the 3/1 generally available hangs around for most of the day or even gets bigger. Given Royal Vacation’s progress since going chasing (his RPR has improved with every race this season) I think it makes sense to have a saver on him too. I think this is a race for small stakes, however, as Alpha Des Obeaux, Whisper, Acapella Bourgeois, Bellshill and O O Seven are all extremely capable. It looks a good race.
