This Weeks Sports Betting Preview - By Rick Elliott

Galway And Goodwood Are Marathons Not Sprints

It’s a busy week for racing on both sides of the Irish Sea. The Galway Festival is a seven day orgy of betting and Glorious Goodwood which is now known as the Qatar Goodwood Festival is five days of high class racing. The surroundings and ambience may be different but both meetings are a marathon and not a sprint. The objective for punters at both tracks is to get more money back from the bookies than they give them when placing their bets. At the Sussex track backing STRADIVARIUS to win the Goodwood Cup on Tuesday at 8/13 with William Hill is the banker of the week.

The Galway jamboree is seven days that combines Flat racing and contests over the jumps. The meeting is more about quantity than quality but betting turnover is huge. There are markets for the top Flat jockey and the top jumps jockey but only one honour for the leading trainer. Ryan Moore and Mark Johnston are the favourites to ride and train most winners at Goodwood. RUBY WALSH returns to action after a long injury break and will have some plum rides so is the bet at 11/10 with Ladbrokes to be the top rider in jumps races at Galway.

It’s a bizarre piece of scheduling that the five match Test series between England and India coincides with the start of the Premier League. There was a window of opportunity for some international cricket between the end of the World Cup and the start of the football season in England. It will be the second week in September before the series ends and the weather could have become unpredictable by then. India are number one in the Test team rankings and England are fifth. Home advantage could not be enough to bridge the gap so INDIA can come out on top in the series and that outcome is 15/8 with Betfair.

Chelsea and Manchester City meet in the English Community Shield at Wembley Stadium on Sunday. The fixture brings together the FA Cup winners and Premier League champions. The Cup winners have won the Shield in the last four seasons and if that run continues CHELSEA will lift the trophy at 11/8 with bet365.
