Cardiff Can Cause A Huge Upset

The FA Cup is famous for its democratic unpredictability but in reality the competition usually follows a similar pattern. Generally about half the teams in the last 16 play in the top division and that trend looks like being maintained this year. Ten teams have already qualified for the fifth round and five of those play in the top division. It’s a safe bet that of the six places still up for grabs about three will be taken by teams from the top flight.

Three of the four replays involve a Premier League club so assuming two of those are won by the team from the top tier there is one more spot in the next round that will be won by a Premier League outfit. That could be Manchester City or Chelsea who are playing today away against Cardiff and at home to Newcastle.

Whatever team Chelsea put out today should have enough to beat Newcastle at Stamford Bridge. In various competitions Chelsea have only conceded in three of their last 10 fixtures so they can progress. That leaves City as the most vulnerable Premier League team of those who have not yet secured a place in the draw for the fifth round. CARDIFF CITY look a massive price at 10/1 with Betfair to beat City.

Today there are jumps meetings in Britain and Ireland. The fixture at Sedgefield offers prize money of £63,000 over seven races while there is £152,000 up for grabs at Naas for the same number of contests. The richest race of the day is the novice chase at Naas (2.20pm). Moulin A Vent has beaten the winner of the big handicap chase run at Gowran Park last week. The horse lacks consistency so you are betting on a reproduction of best past form. At the odds that is a risk worth taking so MOULIN A VENT should be backed at 9/2 with William Hill to win at Naas today.

Best Wishes,
