We all know the Grand National is the World’s greatest race but its Trial which is run today The Betfred Becher Chase is not only a Trial it’s becoming a fantastic race in its own right.

24 high quality staying chasers line up at 3.15 and it will be fantastic to see the most iconic Fences in the World back in use.

Yes the landing sides have been levelled off and the height reduced on some but make no mistake this is still a unique and very tough test of horse and jockey.

Now and again a freakish horse comes along like Red Rum or Hedgehunter who just skip round and wouldn’t fall if they went round a hundred times but for most mortals this is still a huge test.

Todays race is 3 miles 2 furlongs as opposed to the 4 1/2 mile National but it will still take some getting and some of the best staying chasers going have turned up.

A win here though brilliant in its own right will have its connections dreaming of the big one itself. One such horse is the Aintree expert Alvarado the 10/1 fave. He has finished fourth in two Grand Nationals and has been second in a Scottish National. He should get round but he has had a lot of hard races and may just be on the decline.

The Last Samurai was second in the big race to Rule the World and had travelled like a dream till being nabbed late on. There were jumping concerns earlier in his career but the Aintree fences certainly concentrated his mind and he could still have some scope for improvement. My top Irish contact tells me Sizing Coal carries massive stable confidence and certainly has the profile for the race. However I feel there is a max bet in this race in the form of the Pipe trained Vieux Lion Rouge top price 11/1 with Coral.

This horse went very short in running in the National before running out of puff in the last half mile. He had previously run a stormer at Cheltenham so he is rock solid. He travels and jumps well within himself and I can see him hunting them round before picking it up after the last.

He will have been aimed at this and can go very well fresh and to me he looks like the winner with a clear round.

November was another superb month of profit for the Simon Holden Racing Club and we go into December in top form keen to push on. This is Betfan’s Top Service on the year and I intend that to be the case next year.

Tipsters come and go but I’m still here after many years grinding out winners and profits for my customers. Believe me that’s no fluke so put your betting on a professional footing and join me.
