Cheltenham and fresh from a 6/1 advised winner, a 16/1 place and a narrow defeat backed down from 14/1 to 9/2 the Club go in to day 2 confident and expectant.

To be honest its been a frustrating week for us. I have been under the distinct impression that one of my members must have mugged a nun as they say given our misfortune. If I had flipped a coin for the member of the week competition it would have landed on its side!

First thing to say is the track here is in superb condition. This is the Rolls Royce of jumps tracks and I would go as far as to say it’s the best sporting venue in the UK. If you have always said you would like to go then this year tick it off your bucket list and get here, it doesn’t have to be for the Festival Madness there are other meetings. I assure you that you won’t be disappointed it’s Disneyland for Gamblers!

Jonjo seems in sprightly form and it wouldn’t surprise me if his string mysteriously returns to form very soon but the Trainer with the biggest smile was the usually miserable Paul Nicholls.

His horses usually start very slowly but they are in the rudest of health and can’t stop winning. Nicholls was badly hurt by people saying he was past his peak last year and wants to ram it down their throats, as it were.

Take him on at your peril at the moment whilst others needed the run his were trained to the minute. Strange to see some of the Ryan Air horses that were taken off Mullins here with other Trainers. He is the Owner and can do what he wants but it strikes me as lunacy. He obviously thinks it’s going to be a Runaway success (ok it wasn’t my best).

The top race today is the 3.30 Randox Chase over two miles on quickish ground it’s going to be fast and furious and has attracted a strong early season field. I’ve been through this race all ends up and I cannot get away from the jolly Fox Norton at 5/1 with Totesport. After a string of good performances he was last seen winning here in April beating a very well handicapped horse in Dormello. Since then his Trainer Neil Mullholland has struck incredible form and Fox Norton has done plenty of work for this race. I think he will be very hard to beat here and he has to be the bet today.
