September and the Simon Holden Racing Club is flying again with last Saturday seeing us land an almighty Gamble at Ascot.
My members were told there was massive confidence behind Magnus Maximus at Ascot and to get on max each way at 14/1.
The horse absolutely bolted up and we landed an almighty touch.
We don’t do obvious faves I leave that to others, by combining private handicap figures and inside information with extras such as the Sunday Supplement an exclusive feature on eye-catchers, stables and horses to follow we really feel we are offering the most comprehensive racing and betting club out there.
Only yesterday here at Doncaster we were part of the huge gamble on Sheikazyroad from 13/2 into 100/30. I stood by the winning line and was convinced we had just got up and so it was as the Sheik beat the gallant Quest for More in a photo. This is strong form and I can see these two having several more battles in the top staying races next year.
The saddest sight of the week (apart from Andy Bells suit) was old Clever Cookie coming nowhere. The owners of this gallant old horse may have to seriously think about whether this should be his last season! He has been a superstar for a small yard which will make it doubly hard to pack in. He has however had some very hard races and it might be best to bow out now. As with anything it’s always best to get off the beach before the tide comes in.
It’s Leger day and rain is forecast heavy at times which means the ground should be on the easy side. The odds on jolly Idaho is clearly the class horse of the race but do you really want to play at odds on with a horse who is far from guaranteed to see the trip out particularly if the rains come. I would much rather play at the bigger prices and I’m convinced we will see a big run from the Mick Channon trained Harrison. He looks an out and out stayer and if heavy rains come that will aid his cause further. There’s a real opportunity of him to sneak a place at a monster price. I would advise taking the 80/1 on offer.
So it should be a fantastic day here for the Worlds oldest Classic, the course improves year on year and it’s well worth a visit with cold beer at reasonable prices that would shame those posh Southern tracks! Ask for Pimms here and you may not even see the next race.
