Hi ,

It’s Shergar Cup day at Ascot and without being a killjoy the quality of the teams has gone down somewhat in recent years.

Its gone from being a who’s who of Racing to a Who’s that of Racing.

I know there are good cards at Haydock and Newmarket as well today but really couldn’t we have attracted some bigger names from the home based jockeys? No offence to him but I can’t see Joe Fanning adding many to the gate if anything he might knock a few hundred off.

This event is all about bringing new people and younger people into racing and racing has a big problem in this regard as outside of Frankie most people will struggle to name another racing figure. Frankie of course will not go on forever and that will present a huge PR problem. So events like this for all their flaws have to be a good thing.

On the subject of Frankie forget the personality he is still a bloody good jock as was proved by the Simon Holden Racing Club last night when we landed a right touch with Hollywood Road trained by the enigmatic Don Cantillion and ridden by Frankie.

The horse won at 11/4 and I got members on at 100/30 at 8 am in the morning and told them to get a price because this was going to be walloped.

These are the sort of insider gambles I can get you on so if you’re not already involved click the link below and sign up.

Lets stick at Newmarket for the days best bet and the final race at 5.30 where we have a short priced fave from the Prescott yard. At this time of year Sir Mark has his winners but the Bookmakers and many punters are painfully aware of this and many of his horses go off far shorter than they should. His runner here St Michel is one such runner and I think we can get him beat. The horse to do it is Stetchworth Park at 5/1 with Stanjames this morning and trained by in form Michael Bell.

He has two lengths to make up on St Michel from their last run at Sandown. That day however he endured a horror run under the woeful David Probert who got trapped on the inside and shuffled back to last.

He then made the lost ground up too quickly and his run petered out. Today Cam Hardie ties the ride and he shouldn’t have any traffic problems here and is massive value to turn the fave over.

Join me at The Simon Holden Racing Club we have a huge month coming up culminating in the Ebor Festival at York for four days of top class Group races and Handicaps but theres plenty more winners waiting before then!

Have a great weekend.

Back next Saturday.
