23rd July 2016

We've an exciting renewal today of the King George VI Stakes. At the top of the market is an exciting 4 year old trained by Sir Michael Stoute. He's looking at his 4th win in Group company and this looks to be his chance to do so. You'll be hard pressed to find better than 11/4 about Dartmouth but we've managed to secure a whopping 6/1 for all new customers with Paddy Power....

Hi ,

As I write this I still have The Kaiser Chiefs breakfast classic “I Predict a Fry Up” ringing in my ears from last nights York Races Music weekend followed by music (debatable) evening.

Snobbery abounds from the horse and hounds set of course about such events but the place was rammed. Do I think many of them there have any interest in racing or have a lifetime passion for our great sport inspired by actually going for the booze up/concert, NO!

Do I think York Racecourse and other tracks that are coining it in care about the above, NO!!

King George day is one of the great race days and here it is but lets be brutally honest it’s a fairly standard renewal hit very hard by the loss of the Worlds highest rated middle distance horse, Postponed. He was simply awesome in Dubai and scintillating in his demolition job of a Group 1 field at Epsom in the Coronation Cup. He was rightly a short priced fave here and the race has lost much of its sparkle by his absence.

It’s not the fault of the course or the rest of the field that he is not here of course and someone is about to win the King George. We have joint favourites in Dartmouth and Highland Reel who fought out a humdinger of a finish in the Hardwick at Royal Ascot. The great veteran French Jockey Olivier Peslier got the better of Ryan Moore on that occasion and he is reunited with Dartmouth and I can see him beating Highland Reel again. However I’m not sure that form will be good enough to win even a sub standard King George though and I’m looking elsewhere. Erupt who ran a great race in last years Arc and has genuine Group 1 Form and this French Raider has Major claims.

I strongly believe I have the winner of this though and it’s based around what I believe to be the strength of the 3 year old generation. The horse is Wings of Desire who ran a great race in the Derby after landing the Dante at York especially for an inexperienced horse. Wings of Desire looked ill at ease round Epsom and will be much more at home here. This horse still has a big future and Gosden is a Master with middle distance performers. There is another big factor and that is as a 3 year old he gets a whopping weight allowance from the older horses. I’m not sure this is particularly fair but I’m happy to bet with it in my favour and have backed accordingly at 7/2 with Bet365.

I’m going to give you a very special offer to trial my race club and it’s one you would be crazy to ignore. The Simon Holden Racing Club is the top betting club out there with recent winners of up to 16/1!
