Hi ,

Well what a week its been…

Family member pitted against family member, communities divided with strong opinions on both sides even couples splitting up in bitter disputes with wounds that will take years to heal.

Anyway enough about the return of Celebrity Masterchef lets talk racing.

William Buick and Sylvester de Sousa will be heading towards the Brexit as they have both been given lengthy bans. Buick by the French Stewards for riding offences which was increased for how can I say having a lot off at the Stewards. It seems Buick snapped at the old panel who responded with a few extra days. Can’t say I’m a huge fan of his but it seemed a little harsh.

De Sousa however fell foul of the old totting up procedure in that he keeps getting done for excessive use of the whip and the Stewards have imposed a longer ban on him as a deterrent and probably as a result of a petition from the Horses. Our Favourite diminutive Brazilian was interviewed by Matt Chapman and bemoaned the system that has seen him banned for so long as he tries to defend his jockeys title.

Just thinking out loud here but of course another way to stop the bans wouldn’t be to change the system but to perhaps stop breaking the whip rules by hitting the horses too often, not rocket science is it!

It’s Pit Mans Derby Day at Newcastle a huge social day out for The Geordie Nation where they all go out for the day and get completely smashed so it’s basically just a normal day out then. This is the only race meeting I’ve attended where Cans were sold by the crate! The meeting for me has been ruined forever by the terrible decision to rip up the turf track and replace it with an all weather surface making this years the first Pit Mans run on dirt. Shame on them for digging up one of the best Turf Tracks in Europe. At its heart racing is a spectacle and that for me means grass of the green variety.

lets go to Newmarket for our featured race and the 3.55 Group 3 Criterion Stakes over 7 furlongs. With the ground on the soft side you will need to be proven in the conditions and get every yard of the trip. Step forward the David O’Meara trained So Beloved who has strong form on every type of ground and comes here after enduring a horrible time at Haydock. He has previously been mega impressive on his seasonal debut and I know his connections were fuming at being trapped on the rail last time out. The wide open Newmarket spaces should ensure no traffic problems today and though it’s a good field he has the beating of them all. I take him strongly to win today and I notice he is 4/1 with BetVictor.

The Simon Holden Racing Club was on target on Thursday with an 8/1 winner Unabated an unarmed horse from the Marco Botti yard who pounced late on to beat an odds on fave. If you want inside info and the very best unique ratings then the club is the place for you, we will leave a space for you to come and join us at the bar.

Have a great Sporting and Punting Weekend!

Have a great last day.

Back next Saturday.
