Hi ,

We feel that’s a great deal from Sky Bet but back to the weekend and we at BetFan HQ think…

Hull Can Beat Sheffield Wednesday in the £200 Million Match and have found a cracking offer from Betbright for you.

If Hull beat Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship playoff final at Wembley on Saturday Steve Bruce will become the first manager to win promotion to the Premier League four times. Millwall finished two places and seven points ahead of the Barnsley side they meet in the League One decider the following day. AFC Wimbledon finished sixth in League Two so would upset the form book if they beat Plymouth in their playoff match on Bank Holiday Monday. The matches used to be played in reverse order but now the Championship playoff gets the ball rolling.

The Football League playoffs are now an intrinsic part of the football season. With four sides qualifying for the semi-finals in all three decisions more teams have an interest right up to the last few matches. Three points for a win, which was one of the many brain child’s of Jimmy Hill, means teams can come off the pace from mid-table to get in the mix to qualify for the post-season matches. Two teams are promoted automatically from the Championship and League One while three go straight up from League Two. It then becomes any one from four in the race for promotion.

The Championship playoff final has often been described as the most lucrative in the sport. There is a huge difference in financial terms from playing in the Premier League and the second level of English football. TV money, gate receipts and sponsorship income all increase significantly when a team graduates from the Championship to the top league in England. The difference will now be exaggerated by the latest television rights deal which involves an obscene amount of money. The first contract in 1992 was worth £191 million but the clubs have now signed over live coverage of their matches to Sky and BT for a combined total of over £5 billion.

In terms of taking teams into the Premier League Bruce is a past master. His experience of calming his players when they are embarking on a fixture that could change their lives could be invaluable on Saturday. There was not a mass exodus of players when Hull were relegated last season and the side contains several players with experience in the Premier League. There are doubts over the fitness of the first choice keeper but after that Bruce has no injury worries to consider when picking his outfield team. Sheffield Wednesday have less experience and that could be crucial.

Hull ended the regular season two places and nine points ahead of their opponents at Wembley. However, comparative finishing positions do not always equate to the result of the biggest fixture in the Championship calendar. Brighton were 15 points clear of Wednesday after the full 46 game schedule but lost to that team 3-1 in the playoff semi-finals. Conversely Hull won five more points than Derby in regulation and confirmed that gap by winning 3-2 over two legs in the semis. The Championship match should go to form and Hull can beat Wednesday in a low-scoring contest.

In the semi-finals of the League One playoffs both teams that progressed won the away leg. Millwall beat Bradford 3-1 on the road in the first match and a draw in the return was enough to see them qualify for the Wembley showdown. Barnsley’s 6-1 aggregate defeat of Walsall involved them winning both matches and never looking like not missing out on the Wembley experience. Millwall can confirm the form of the seven point gap by beating Barnsley in the League One final but extra time might be required. They had a superior goal difference of eight during the regular season.

Claiming the last playoff spot does not mean winning the playoffs is impossible. The playoffs have a history of producing results which do not tally with relative league places in the season just finished. The league matches between Wimbledon and Plymouth were shared with both teams winning one fixture and scoring and conceding four goals. In 10 of the 11 meetings no side had an advantage of more than one goal at the end of each game. Form suggests Plymouth will beat Wimbledon but by one goal and that brings 1-0 and 2-1 into contention for the correct score.

A nine month season and 46 matches can be made or broke over 90 minutes of football. The value of playing in the Premier League has been put at £200 million. Steve Bruce has the know how and players to disregard that scary sum and beat Sheffield Wednesday while Millwall and Plymouth can move up a division with wins over Barnsley and Wimbledon in their playoff matches.
