Hi ,

Hammers Could Throw Spanner in Works at Leicester

The impossible dream is still alive and could get even closer to reality after today's live televised matches in the Premier League. It’s Leicester’s turn to play at home and they entertain West Ham. Tottenham visit Stoke tomorrow and if these matches produce two home wins Leicester will be ten points clear with four matches remaining and about 1/100 to win the title for the first time.

As each week goes by and Leicester become bigger favourites to win the Premier League the amounts involved when bettors that backed them at 5000/1 and can now cash out increase. The latest story to appear in the papers was about a Leicester fan who has taken the money early and won £108,000. Last week’s win at Sunderland was another significant step on the journey that could end with Claudio Ranieri and Jamie Vardy granted the freedom of the city of Leicester and a Hollywood movie.

In a normal season Leicester versus West Ham in the middle of April would be a relegation related fixture or a match between two sides becalmed in mid-table safety. In the most extraordinary season in the history of the Premier League a home win would virtually decide who wins the title and an away win would bring West Ham right into the mix for Champions League qualification. A draw would suit Leicester more but I have a sneaky feeling that the Hammers are going to throw a spanner in the works.

West Ham have lost just four of 16 matches on the road in the league this season, scoring 25 goals and conceding 21. They have won at the grounds of some of the biggest clubs and won’t fear a trip to Filbert Street, or the King Power Stadium. One negative could be the mental letdown from a fruitless replay in the FA Cup at home to Manchester United on Wednesday when they were second best and soundly beaten.

Leicester have won the joint most number of points at home with Tottenham but have played one match less at their own stadium. They have lost just one of 16 home matches in the Premier League, scoring 26 goals and conceding 15. Vardy is getting the headlines for his goals but Leicester have not conceded in their last five matches in the league. They have the third best defensive record of all 20 teams in the division with a solid unit and Schmeichel junior in goal who is doing his Dad proud.

However, Tottenham have scored most and conceded fewest goals in the section and that is a great profile for potential champions. They have lost one more and drawn two more fixtures than Leicester and that explains the seven point gap between the teams at the top of the table. Stoke are no more than solid at home with six wins, five draws and six losses so Tottenham can beat them in this fixture and keep things interesting.
