David Barron-trained Wolowitz, who started at 4/1, got the better of 25/1 shot Sign Of The Kodiac in a blanket finish to the Unibet Three-Year-Old Sprint All-Weather Championships Stakes at Lingfield Park on Good Friday. There was a neck between each of the first five home.

The sixth, the 5/4 favourite Gracious John, trained by David Evans and ridden by John Egan, stumbled at the start and then raced keenly.

The victory gave rider Graham Gibbons a 24/1 double on the day after his victory on Volunteer Point in the opening 32Red.com All-Weather Fillies' And Mares.

Wolowitz, a son of Intense Focus, is a late foal - he was born on May 26 - and so was the youngest in the field with, presumably, more scope for further improvement.

Gibbons said: "He's done well. I was able to get across from my draw, he's pretty smart."

"I didn't think they went very quick and he was keener than normal for the first half of the race and I didn't think I was going to get there for a bit. The pace had collapsed - I could have done with them going a bit quicker. But he's a nice horse, going the right way."

Wolowitz has now won his last four races, making up for an inauspicious debut at York last June. "We were a bit disappointed when we took him to York," added Gibbons. "The boss [trainer David Barron] said before the race he was our best two-year-old, and afterwards said, if he's our best, then we're in trouble."

"But we always knew he had that ability. He just needed time, he was a bit immature. And he's been gelded now, which has made a man of him. He's going the right way and he hasn't finished yet. There's a big pot in him this summer."

"For me, today couldn't be better. Hanging around for the winter, you've got that edge when the turf season starts, you keep your contacts and you're into it quicker perhaps than the lads who go away."

Yorkshire-based Barron was not present at Lingfield. Cheltenham Festival winner On The Fringe has been well backed (2/1 from 5/2 with Paddy Power) for the Fox Hunters' Chase at Aintree.

Mitraad has been the best backed horse with Hills (8/1 from 12/1) for the Betway Lincoln (Heritage) Handicap over a mile at Doncaster this Saturday.

Many Clouds is the clear 7/1 favorite for the Grand National at Aintree next Saturday, last years hero is reported to be in very rude form at Oliver Sherwood's yard big run fully expected from the Cloud.
