Burnley Home Bankers Against Crystal Palace

 By Rick Elliott

The second day of Irish Champions Weekend takes place at the Curragh and the racing should be dominated by Aidan O’Brien. Things didn’t go to plan for him at Leopardstown yesterday but Gustav Klimt and Order Of St George should do the business for the stable today.

Gustav Klimt looks hard to beat on ratings and no other horse entered has produced anything like the form as a two-year-old. The horse won over course and distance in July and the stable believe he is a horse with great potential who should deliver today.

Order Of St George won today’s race, the Irish St Leger, in 2015 and was second last year. The 2016 Ascot Gold Cup winner is proven over the distance and on ratings is the horse to beat.

Both horses are clear form picks but at prohibitive odds for singles but the double pays over 11/8 with bet365. Winter and Churchill both lost yesterday at around even money but O’Brien can get his season back on track with this double today.

The live Premier League football fare is ordinary today and it’s about relegation issues and not winning the Premier League. Crystal Palace have no points after three matches and that situation could not change as Burnley are fancied to beat Palace at home:

The fixture between Swansea and Newcastle is too hard to call and my Sunday Special is the O’Brien double in Ireland today.

Coneygree Can Win Listowel's Kerry National

The variety of racing in Ireland is highlighted by the Listowel Harvest Festival which starts on the second day of Champions Weekend and takes place over seven days.  The meeting combines Flat and jumps races and the highlight is the Kerry National on Wednesday. Coneygree could run in the race so the locals could see a Cheltenham Gold Cup winner running in their own back yard. The winner of the Blue Riband of chasing in 2015 can be backed at 7/2 to win Listowel’s biggest race.

You can get all the best bets for the Kerry National and the seven day meeting with our Listowel Harvest Festival Special:

Coneygree has only run three times since winning the Gold Cup. A facile win at Sandown in a three-runner race was followed by a second place to Cue Card in the Betfair Chase last year. The margin of defeat was 15 lengths but Coneygree led four fences from home and lack of fitness told in the straight. The horse was then beaten by Djakadam and Sizing John in the Punchestown Gold Cup in somewhere near a career best run.
