Declans Eyecatchers - This Weeks Horses To Follow...

A RATED (Liam Kenny)  Useful hurdler and point to pointer, but jumping fences is his game. Quietly fancied at Galway where he unseated at the first. No mistake at Kilbeggan last Saturday, and is one to follow over the larger obstacles on good ground. Possibly Listowel is his next port of call.

BETSEY TROTTER (Dermot Weld) Often a pointer when Weld lets his fillies take on colts first time and there was a lot to like about her Curragh debut second to the very experienced Brick By Brick last Sunday. Cost 125,000 gns. as a yearling and is related to Flying Childers winner Green Door.

CHIARA LUNA (Dermot Weld)  Our Irish Racing Service subscribers got 11/4 on this highly impressive 4/5 Leopardstown winner. Out of an easy Ribblesdale scorer, the six furlongs trip was always going to be a bit sharp for her but she got the job done. The Moyglare is the obvious target for a filly owned by the sponsors and she could be a bit special over a mile and further next season.

MENDELSSON  (Aidan O'Brien) Still very raw and ran all over the shop when winning at The Curragh last Sunday. Clearly it will be baby steps this season, but no denying his speed and ability and he could develop into a formidable competitor.

MUIRIN (Eddie Lynam) Sprang a 16/1 Curragh shock on debut when overcoming a slow start to collar 2/5 hotpot Sizzling close home. Has a Moyglare entry and is fully entitled to take her chance.

NELSON (Aidan O'Brien) A very easy all the way winner at Leopardstown on Thursday night, the Beresford looks a likely target and he is expected to be a leading player in the Ballydoyle Derby squad next season.

THOMAS O'MALLEY (Joseph O'Brien) Much better on fast ground on the flat, so his hurdles debut second to stablemate Pronounced on a sticky surface at Ballinrobe was a noteworthy effort. Worth backing on decent ground next time particularly if over longer than the minimum two miles trip.

RICKRACK (Jessica Harrington) This recent recruit from Luca Cumani has run well at both Galway and Gowran Park but probably needs better ground to really shine.

WESTLAND ROW (Gordon Elliott) A nice 7/1 touch at Downpatrick for our Irish Service followers - won at 7/2 - and the much better ground from Galway was a big factor.  Thanks to clever work by Davy Russell he got away with the two miles and three trip, but will be much more effective over two or three furlongs more next time.
