It is with great sadness we learnt of the passing of Pat Eddery yesterday. He was a superb jockey and one of the best champions of all time. I'm sure nobody could forget the wonderful race between Pat on Grundy and Joe Mercer on Bustino for the 1975 King George and Queen Elizabeth stakes in which Grundy forged ahead in the final push to the line. It was always known as the race of the Century.

Then there was the 1986 Arc in which Pat rode Dancing Brave with supreme confidence to cruise through and destroy the high class field with a devastating turn of finishing pace.

Pat rest in piece but those amazing races will live forever.

Now I want to address certain aspects of tipping and tipsters as we are in an era of unprecedented risks and paradoxically unprecedented opportunities.

Never before in the world of betting have punters stood the risk of losing so much or to gain so immensely if making the correct decisions. What I am referring to are the vastly different approaches of tipsters when it comes betting and staking.

Now I keep a close eye on what my competitors are up to and I have noticed this year that too many tipsters are putting out up to 10 selections a day. To me this reminds me of the saying if you throw mud at the wall some might just stick.

Then to make matters worse they attach so many points to their tips they are staking between 20 to 40 points on a single days racing. Infact I know of one service that has already advised over 400 points and we are not a third of the way through the month and by the end of November he would have staked over 1000 points.

Betting is and always will be about risk and reward and should be viewed as a business. So my advice is when joining any advisory service always look at their return on investment as the main criteria not the amount of points they have stacked up as figures can be made to look misleading at times.

There are many sensible and prudent services around and you should always check out their proofing and the R.O.I. before parting with your hard earned.

Just to give you a guide on my Fold4gold service so far in November we have a profit of 51 points and we have staked 26 points. My advice is whatever tipping service you join you should never need more than a bank of 100 points and no single bet need be more than 2% of your bank.

Well the flat season is over and hopefully we can all look forward to some exciting jump action over the coming months however for Howies Hottie I'm sticking with Kempton polytrack in the 7.40.

The tip is Chookie Royale from the Keith Dalgleish yard. The gelding is far better on synthetic surfaces than turf and as the only confirmed front runner in the line up he could get his own way at the head of affairs.

Elusive Guest trainer G.Margason - After a slow start and a troubled passage he couldn't get to the leaders however he was noted staying on at the end.

Bittern trainer E.Mullins - Ex Godolphin horse who ran a race of promise last week at Dundalk.

Gunner Lindley trainer S.Coltherd - A good 2nd last week when given too much to do.

Royal Paladium trainer Venetia Williams - Jumped like a stag at Wincanton and should improve for the outing.
