Declan's Eye-Catchers - Future Irish Winners!

While the Grand National cast a long shadow last weekend, there was some very informative flat racing in Ireland at Leopardstown and Naas, and the following runners could be of particular interest in the weeks and months ahead.

ALICE SPRINGS (Aidan O'Brien) A lot of the classier Ballydoyle fillies need their first run of the season, and she wasn't asked too hard a question when a nice second to Diamond Fields in the Gladness Stakes at Naas. Stepping back up to a mile will suit, and she will be hard to oppose next time in any company.

HYPERDRIVE (Jessica Harrington) Hadn't been seen for 191 days before running Steelyeyed mighty close at Leopardstown. It was also his first run in a handicap and going up in trip certainly helped. While the "bounce factor" is always a concern he is one to keep on your side in ten furlongs or mile and a half handicaps.

IRISHCORRESPONDENT (Michael Halford) Really impressed when giving serious rivals both a lead and a beating at Leopardstown. Had a ton in hand at the finish and looks Royal Ascot material.

ORDEROFTHEGARTER (Aidan O'Brien) While Churchill will probably still be the main Ballydoyle 2,000 Guineas contender, this vastly improved performer gave his second stunning display of the new season when burying his rivals alive in the Leopardstown 2,000 Guineas Trial. He will give Aidan and the Coolmore team plenty to chew over. It's unlikely he'll replace Churchill at Newmarket, but he'll not be allowed take him on either. All ground comes alike to him and he really could be anything.
