Charli Parcs Can Win At Kempton and Cheltenham - Rick Elliott

With just over two weeks before the start of the Cheltenham Festival this really is the last chance saloon for key trials. The Adonis Juvenile Hurdle at Kempton on Saturday features the second favourite for the Triumph Hurdle and Charli Parcs could set a marker for the four year old championship at the meeting that matters most. The horse is trained by Nicky Henderson who is only a bigger price than Willie Mullins in the betting to be the Cheltenham Festival Top Trainer. Mullins has strength in depth but some of his better horses will not be running this year.

Charli Parcs has only been seen once on a British racecourse, at Kempton over Christmas. The horse beat a good guide to the form in Master Blueyes and the winning distance was eight lengths. Charli Parcs was held up and the jockey, Noel Fehily, rode the race with confidence. That was justified when his mount went ahead three hurdles from home and easily raced clear of the rest of the field. Fehily is a big price to win the jockey of the meeting prize for which Barry Geraghty looks interesting as he is Henderson's stable jockey.

The Mullins and Walsh combination have been a standing dish at Cheltenham in the last few years. They are favourites in their markets but will both suffer from the absence of horses owned by Rich Ricci. For various reasons Vautour, Annie Power, Min and Faugheen won't be running at Cheltenham and potentially they would have been favourites for their targets. Its been a tough year for Mullins as Gigginstoen removed 60 horses from his stable and four of superstars owned by Ricci have had setbacks and in the case of Vautour a fatality which means they miss the Festival.
