Winter Can Win The Irish Champion Stakes - Rick Elliott

The whole shape of the betting and how the race pans out is dependent on the participation of Winter in the Irish Champion Stakes. The race is run over 10 furlongs at Leopardstwon on Saturday which is the first day of Irish Champions Weekend. The Curragh stages the second stage of the meeting the following day.

Winter is a three-year-old filly so gets weights from the colts and older horses. She is trained by Aiden O’Brien who also has Churchill in the race. Winter has been backed this week but the horse is also quoted at odd-on to win the Matron Stakes over one mile on the same day and the race is confined to fillies. Winter can beat the best female horses in that race but looks like being pitched in against the boys.
